Longest River Denial Essays - Behavior, Human Behavior,
Longest River: Denial The Longest River: Denial A hallmark of someone who is engaging in this addiction pattern, but who has not accepted that their behavior is out of their control, is denial. Denial is a psychological defense mechanism that enables a person to continue to engage in a behavior in spite of relatively obvious negative consequences on their life. Its a way to protect ourselves from seeing or feeling things that are unpleasant. In the case of the gambling addict, there may be repeated warnings from his or her spouse that they will not tolerate continued spending of household savings, job loss, and constant harassment by creditors. In light of this, the gambling addict will still deny that they have a problem with gambling and will believe that they have complete control over their actions. Denial permits one to distort reality, a very powerful psychological defense; it can have devastating consequences on our life, and the ability to disregard such negative consequences while continuing the behavior is a hallmark of denial. Denial is present, to some extent or another, in all addictions. Its necessary, in the development of an addictive process, to experience a sense of denial while the addiction is beginning to take hold. Otherwise we would not continue with the addictive behaviors. Because of denial, the impact of our negative behavior is never fully appreciated until the consequences become so overwhelming that they can no longer be ignored. This is sometimes referred to as hitting bottom. People may continue their behavior indefinitely, with no recognition of the negative consequences of their actions, in spite of numerous personal disasters. Often an individual will not seek help for a specific problem, unless theyve recognized that they are no longer in control of the situation and need help. This usually happens at a point when the negative impact of their addiction has become grossly obvious and their denial is broken. It is a process that cannot be rushed. Each person has to discover their own time frame for how and when to deal with their addiction. This, of course, can be very frustrating for family and friends of the addict, who often notice the problem long before the addict does. Negative consequences of Internet use vary considerably. I have been consulted on Internet cases where employees have been caught using their work computer for personal Internet access (in some cases wasting considerable company time and/or downloading sexually related material onto their computer). In some cases, individuals could be charged with sexual harassment as a consequence of exposing fellow employees to sexually explicit material against their will (even accidentally!). There may even be a legal liability for employers who allow (even unknowingly) their employees to use the company network to send personal email or other material that might be seen as objectionable by others. Ive also seen numerous cases of couples with significant marital or relationship problems due to Internet abuse; at times even resulting in child custody investigations! Everyday I hear or receive stories of people who are getting into trouble with their online behavior at home or at work. It may take the form of abusing the Net by staying online longer than you had planned, having cybersex/cyberaffairs, or spending too much money online by gambling, stock trading, shopping, or auctioning. . I fear that as broadband access increases from the current 6% level, that we will see an increase in compulsive Internet use; The increase may occur because just as the faster modes of absorption of a drug increases the addictive potential a drug. Broadband Internet access could provide the hit in a much more rapid manner enabling a faster psychological impact and effect. This may translate into a more habit-forming experience. Few people, except for those who have had a problem, recognize the power and attraction of being online. This is changing rapidly however. Although it is probably not an epidemic, I have little doubt that millions of people are experiencing a negative impact in their lives because of their compulsive use of the Internet and I believe that number will continue to grow. Recognition of both the dark and light side of the Internet will enable us to be served by technology, instead of

Top 5 Hottest Jobs With The Most Potential for 2017
Top 5 Hottest Jobs With The Most Potential for 2017 As the New Year approaches, maybe itââ¬â¢s also time for a new you? Or maybe just a new work you? If youââ¬â¢re looking for a career change, one of these five buzzy jobs could be the one for you. 1. Survey ResearchDid you know that 4 out of 5 survey researchers recommend this career path? If you think you could be the next Nate Silver, then helping companies surf the numbers to find patterns and predict trends might be the right path for you. This is a pretty highly skilled area (youââ¬â¢d likely need a masterââ¬â¢s degree and a background in statistics, sociology, and business), but itââ¬â¢s lucrative (it has a $45,050 median salary for 2017) and expected to grow 18 percent by 2022, per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Survey saysâ⬠¦look into it!2. Software App DeveloperOkay, so for every developer who sells an app for $15 million and retires to a condo in Silicon Valley, there are hundreds of developers who have more of an everyday software career. But if you go in this direction, it could be you who comes up with the next Candy Crush. This is definitely a wave-of-the-future career, with more hands needed on deck all the time to create, develop, and maintain software applications. With a Bachelorââ¬â¢s degree and some hands-on coding and programming experience, app developers can make a median salary of $90,000. Thatââ¬â¢s a lot of Candy Crush boosters, no? Plus, the field is growing like gangbusters: in fewer than 10 years, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects 23 percent growth.3. Travel AgentFull disclosure: I wasnââ¬â¢t even aware until recently that travel agents are still a thing. How is this possible, when we do everything over the internet now? Fact is, travel agents have not only adapted to the growing tech and self-service parts of travel, they have positioned themselves as travel ambassadors. You might not walk into a storefront full of fake palm trees anymore and have someone phone the airline to book your ticke t, but a travel agent (often someone who works from home on a freelance basis) can help you navigate for a better deal and manage booking arrangements on your behalf. Travel agents today have an average salary of $56,000- not to mention a suite of sweet travel perks.4. Physician AssistantJobs in the medical sector are always a great bet- as immortal as we may think we are, we all need healthcare at some point. Physiciansââ¬â¢ assistants are especially in demand right now, as theyââ¬â¢re increasingly used to fill gaps caused by doctor and nurse shortages. These jobs typically require a two-year training program and a certification, and have a median salary of $74,980. The field is expected to grow a whopping 27 percent in 2017.5. Veterinary TechniciansJust before Black Friday, I got an email from a major pet store chain (which shall remain nameless) telling me to shop now for gifts to ââ¬Å"surprise your pet for the holidays.â⬠Pretty much everything surprises my dog, so I canââ¬â¢t say I spent much at that store. However, it showed me how the pet industry has become Serious Business. Someone who tries hard to surprise his cat with the perfect holiday gift is likely also someone who takes good care of said cat, and wants quality veterinary care.If you like animals (even the less cuddly ones) and are willing to take a 1-2 year training program, you could be the one providing that care. The median salary for vet techs is $27,750, but what it lacks in gold watches, it more than makes up for in puppy cuddles. Or snake cuddles. Whatever floats your boat. Either way, itââ¬â¢s a solid career path with lots of growth potential (41% projected by 2022).Whether you jump right into a new career or take a few classes to get started, 2017 could be a major turning point for your professional life. Think outside the resume, and you might find the exact right opportunity for yourself.

Data Collection and Analysis With a Real Teacher-Researcher Essay
Data Collection and Analysis With a Real Teacher-Researcher - Essay Example May benefited in her collaboration, in that, they broadened her mind to the inquiry where she saw it from different angles, and guided her to choose the best approach, and they also assisted her in areas she felt tired. Collaboration in the research process gives time for one to come up with the best service because shortcomings are outweighed (Herreid, 2006). Maysââ¬â¢ plan of data collection is good from my general perspective if looked at a glance. The most meaningful part of her plan is tier 3 intervention. This is because the section targets the challenging students individually and tends to empower him or her, and this leaves a clear result for May. If compared to other parts, this one focus on each student at a time until the areas of improvement are identified, it shows how practical the area is, where students also build on previous knowledge from classroom routines and became responsible and answerable if they do not meet the set standards. The most impractical area comes in when a teacher decides to rely on another who collects data on their behalf. The data may be biased or in accurate, also, the idea of adding adults to class may distract some students, to the teacher, they may be forced to reset the goals, and also give more time for all students to familiarize themselves so as to be ready to learn. It will reduce the morale and authority May had on her students. Conducting an individual interview among students exhibiting worse behaviors in class would be another good form to put into consideration. This will allow her capture external triggers to such behaviors like problems from home between parents or sibling rivalry or social wise among others. Taking one by one for interrogation will allow May understand them better and deal with each differently. To the students, they will have a picture in mind of a caring teacher (Shagoury & Power,
